Untitled design copy 12Laser hair removal is the key to soft and smoother-looking skin. The light energy from the laser is converted into heat, which damages the hair follicle under the skin. This damage inhibits or delays future hair growth. Following a simple after-care process, including protecting the skin and choosing the right products, will help ensure that the treated area heals quickly and correctly.

Apply a cold compress

As the laser has been emitting heat to the skin, it’s normal to still feel that slight warming sensation after the treatment. This area may also have some subtle swelling and redness.  If this happens to your treated area, it’s safe to say a cool compress will be your best friend. By using a cold damp towel or a towel-wrapped ice pack, it will help to cool and soothe the treated area will also hopefully reducing the amount of swelling. We recommend not applying the ice pack alone directly to the treated area as this could cause more irritation.

Apply a gentle SPF

As this newly treated area is still healing it’s best to treat it with a gentle, but strong, SPF as it will protect the area from UV rays and from becoming red and irritated. If your treated area can be covered up with clothing, it’s probably best to do so for a little while as this can help the area to heal naturally with no disruptions to the skin, preventing the area from getting any sun exposure.  A plain moisturiser such as Aqueous Cream can also be applied gently to prevent peeling.

Keep away from extreme temperatures

Our IPL hair removal treatment in North London works by using heat to destroy the hair follicles. Exposing the treated area to additional heat can further increase the skin irritation, swelling and redness. Hot water, saunas, and steam rooms should all be skipped for a minimum of 48 hours after the treatment. It’s also necessary to keep clear of very cold temperatures as this can have the same affect to the skin. Having mild showers and staying in cool rooms will be the best option.
